I’m excited to be one of the speakers that will be presenting at WordCamp Victoria on Jan 14, 2012. A quick look at the roster shows that there is a wealth of awesome WordPress information to be shared on the west coast that day.

I have chosen to talk about “After the Install: Ten Things You Should Do Before Writing Your First Post.” As the title implies, I am going to walk you through 10 things you should do to improve your WordPress install while it’s still got that new website smell going for it. There will be some security tips to keep you safe, as well as some SEO and productivity suggestions to help you get the most bang for your buck.

The target audience is (obviously) the new WordPress user, but there will also be some material that will appeal to the intermediate-level and “power users “ in the crowd. So, if you’re a blogger, small business site owner, or someone who is just looking at starting a WordPress website, this session is for you.
